South Island Tours
Continuing our journey through New Zealand from north to south, we arrive at the magnificent South Island, where the scenery is breathtaking and varied in equal measure. Vistas which draw people from across the world await you. Choose a tour or two, or three!
Tour 3, Walk the Tasman, moves from Wellington, the vibrant capital, to the Abel Tasman National Park, a stretch of coast mostly accessible via water taxis, where we walk through secluded inlets with golden beaches and safe swimming, walk and bathe in the thermal pools at Hanmer Springs and the highlight for many visitors, to watch whales at arguably the best location in the world, where you can opt to swim with dolphins, and sightings of the resident sperm whale population are all but guaranteed, in addition to anything else which may be passing by! Tour ends in the garden city of Christchurch.
Tour 4, Walk the Lakes, begins in Christchurch. With the dramatic Southern Alps always in view we pass the crystal clear blue waters of glacial Lake Tekapo on the way to New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki/Mt Cook. We walk the trails around Mt Cook and if conditions are favourable we can star gaze into the dark night sky. A drive via Lake Wanaka to Queenstown takes us to the shores of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by The Remarkables Ranges and an optional day excursion for a cruise on iconic Milford Sound.
Tour 5, Walk the Glaciers, begins in Queenstown and takes us via the Haast Pass to the delights of the West Coast with it's varied ecosystems, native bush and steep valleys, to where we hike on the surface of a glacier with the west side of the Mt Cook range as a backdrop. We take the scenic train route across the Southern Alps for the return to Christchurch, where our journey ends.
All this, and a comfortable bed with private facilities to retire to at the end of each day in our excellent accommodation. What are you waiting for!
